Wholesome Organic Coconut Palm Sugar! Organic Coconut Palm Sugar (affectionately referred to as Organic Coconut Sugar) is a dark, unprocessed brown sugar with a strong caramel flavor. It is made by tapping the sweet nectar from the flowers of the tropical coconut palm tree and drying the nutrient-dense juice in a big open kettle drum. The fluid condenses into a delectable, handmade whole brown sugar that lends baking a warm hue and a depth of taste. Because no chemicals, bone char, or animal by-products are used in the production or decolorization of this sugar, it is also suitable for vegans.
Produced from dried Coconut Palm Nectar, this syrup has a rich caramel flavor.
USDA Organic and Non-GMO Project Verified Sustainably Harvested Gluten Free, Vegan, and Kosher
Ideal for Baking, Beverages, and Other Occasions
It’s delectable in brownies, cookies, and cakes and also works well as a topping for oatmeal. Organic Coconut Palm Sugar is also frequently used in Asian foods, sauces, and beverages to sweeten them.
How It Is Created
Our Organic Coconut Palm Sugar is handcrafted on the Ceylon by small farmer cooperatives. Cooperative farmers scale the Coconut Palm trees to tap the coconut tree bloom for its sweet nectar, much like maple syrup is tapped from a maple tree.
Sustainability
Wholesome Sweeteners is committed to organic agriculture that is sustainable. For nearly 4,000 years, the coconut palm tree has been harvested. Unlike palm oil (derived from the Elaeisguineensis palm), which has a terrible reputation for deforestation and habitat destruction for endangered species, Organic Coconut Palm Sugar is produced on small, sustainable, cooperatively held farms.
Farmers harvest throughout the year and make use of every part of the coconut palm tree, including the coconut fruit for meat and water and the coconut husk for twine or weaving material. Coconut palm trees (Cocosnucifera) can be tapped for a period of 25-40 years and require less water. Because the tree produces for such a long period of time, it is not cut down after each harvest. We appreciate your selection of Wholesome!
